Moguls Team heads to Tazawako, Japan

Feb. 16, 2017
FIS Freestyle Ski World Cup

Tazawako, Japan, February 16, 2017 – After Bokwang, South Korea, the moguls team heads to Japan for the next stop on the World Cup circuit. A double program awaits the Canadian athletes over the weekend in the form of a singles event on Saturday, February 18, followed by duals on Sunday.

The Canadians have been on a roll since Val St-Côme, evidenced by the number of medals garnered by the women and men alike. The past weeks have brought out the talent and depth of this team with performances by the young Andi Naude and the triumphant returns of veterans Philippe Marquis and Marc-Antoine Gagnon. Mikaël Kingsbury continues to dominate the circuit with five wins under his belt this season, while sisters Justine and Chloé Dufour-Lapointe have also seen podium action, standing in second and fourth place, respectively, in the FIS general standings.

The Canadian athletes enjoy Tazawako as a circuit stop, where they are welcomed warmly by the Japanese. It is here that Mikaël Kingsbury has distinguished himself since 2015, twice in the duals and once in the singles event. On the women’s side, Chloé Dufour-Lapointe would probably enjoy a repeat of last year’s performance, when she stepped up on the podium twice; and Audrey Robichaud surely feels the same, having also had two podium wins in Tazawako.

Here are the athletes scheduled to compete in the moguls event:

Men: Mikaël Kingsbury (Deux-Montagnes, Qc), Philippe Marquis (Quebec City, Qc), Marc-Antoine Gagnon (Terrebonne, Qc), Simon Pouliot-Cavanagh (Quebec City, Qc), Laurent Dumais (Quebec City, Qc), Luke Ulsifer (Calgary, AB)
