Elena started skiing when she was 4 years old. Her dad skied when he was younger and brought it on as a family activity. Elena immediately fell in love with it! Skiing was a way to spend time with her family and have fun. What could be better?
Elena started freestyle skiing at age 7 at the Silver Star Freestyle Club program with her older brother. Her brother is one of the reasons why Elena is where she is today: she always wanted to be better than him or be able to do the tricks that he was doing. He also pushed her to try new things. She remembers the day when she was skiing with his group and they were all hitting a medium jump, something Elena wanted to do as well. In the end, she got a bloody nose but it didn’t matter because if her brother could do it, so could she!
Pushing herself sure paid off! At her first season on the World Cup tour Elena has already been able to travel across the world to take part in a couple of World Cups. She moved up the leaderboard from the first to the last event of 2017 in Font Romeu where she made it to finals and finished 6th. Despite being sidelined for the most part of the 2016 season, she was able to compete at the Aspen Open and win the event. Last season, she got injured and was unable to compete for the majority of the season.
The slopes are not the only place where Elena has been on the fast track. She will be graduating this year – one year early – having been taking courses years up so she can have more time to focus on skiing.
Aside from skiing and soccer, which she really enjoys and tries to play as much as she can, Elena is quite active. She likes to go on hikes, go swimming, go to the gym or do what any 16 year old girl does, hangout with friends!
