Philippe Marquis

Never one to be shy in front of a camera, Philippe Marquis surprised and delighted Canadian fans from coast-to-coast when he was announced as a special CBC Sports commentator for the Rio Olympic Games.

A 2014 Olympian himself in mogul skiing, Marquis and co-host Craig McMorris took fans on a behind the scenes journey of Rio de Janeiro for a web series called Rio on the Edge.

Marquis’ lovable personality has made him a natural on camera, but has also proved useful as one of the veterans of the Canadian team. Along with his best friend, Mikaël Kingsbury, Marquis has been known to push the team to improve while keeping everyone loose with organized team building activities such as hockey games.

He’s not just there for the ride though. Over the years, Marquis has developed as one of the very best in the world and a chief rival of Kingsbury. The two shared the dual moguls podium at the 2015 FIS World Championships, along with teammate Marc-Antoine Gagnon, during what was the first ever sweep by a Canadian trio in the history of the sport. Marquis is a fierce competitor with a positive outlook, two personality traits that helped in make his way to finals in the 2018 Olympic Games despite a torn ACL.

Marquis’ older brother, Vincent, was also formerly part of the national team program and represented Canada at the 2010 Winter Olympic Games finishing fourth in moguls.

Outside of skiing, Marquis has been an ambassador for Right to Play since 2014. Marquis has also been doing public speaking tours at schools and business since 2011.

  • 2015 FIS World Championship silver medallist (dual moguls)
  • FIS World Cup winner in Ruka, Finland (2014) and Are, Sweden (2012)
  • 9th at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic Games
