INFORMATION ABOUT THE UCCMS
The Universal Code of Conduct to Prevent and Address Maltreatment in Sport (UCCMS) is the core document that sets harmonized rules that have been adopted by Canadian National Sport Organizations and Multi-Sport Service Organizations. The goal of the UCCMS is to advance a respectful sport culture that delivers quality, inclusive, accessible, welcoming, and safe sport experiences.
THE UCCMS ADDRESSES:
- common principles and a commitment to advance a respectful sport culture.
- standard definitions of various forms of maltreatment, including grooming, neglect, and physical, sexual, and psychological maltreatment
- a list of other prohibited behavior such as retaliation, failure to report maltreatment, intentionally filing false allegations, misuse of power, etc.
- a framework for determining appropriate sanctions against such prohibited behavior.
The CCES is funded by the federal government to independently administer the Universal Code of Conduct to Prevent and Address Maltreatment in Sport (UCCMS) for national-level, federally funded sport organizations through the Canadian Safe Sport Program.
The CSSP came into effect on April 1, 2025, and is a national program designed to prevent and address maltreatment in sport. The program strives to deliver a world leading response to maltreatment in Canadian sport.
- The jurisdiction of the CSSP applies to national-level participants within those organizations. Every identified participant is required to complete a mandatory e-learning course and sign a consent form.
- The CSSP receives and respond to reports of prohibited behaviour, and develops and carries out education, prevention, and policy activities.
- The CSSP Rules clearly outlines how the independent administration of the UCCMS will work.
