It has been a long journey for Brendan MacKay who started off competitively as a skier racer at the age of 4. But along with his older brother, Aaron, Brendan wanted to pursue his creativity on the slopes, and would go on to harness his talents at Canada Olympic Park (COP).
At age 10, Brendan joined the local freestyle team out of COP, where he first met teammates Noah Bowman, and Kris Atkinson. As the years progressed, watching their success, he realized that his dream of becoming a professional skier was attainable.
Years later, at the age of 17, he got a call from the head coach of the Canadian Freestyle Halfpipe Team. Trennon Paynter was informing the native of Calgary, AB, that his hard work had been noticed, and that he was getting called up to the national team.
This was the beginning of a new chapter for MacKay, who has since, been travelling the globe representing Canada, and harnessing his skills. The adversity’s he’s faced have only deepened his passion for skiing, which will undoubtedly burn long after he’s finished competing.
