Sustainability
As a sport that depends on consistent snow and access to winter terrain, Freestyle Canada is already experiencing the consequences of climate change. Warmer temperatures, shortened seasons, and unpredictable weather increasingly threaten athlete development, competition planning, and the long-term viability of the sport.
Building on leadership from the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Canadian Olympic Committee (COC), and the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS), we have taken the first steps in our sustainability journey to try to ensure our sport can continue for many years to come.
We also believe that environmental efforts strengthens existing commitments to hosting high-quality events, creating lasting legacies, and engaging with communities.
Our Sustainability Strategy
In 2025, Freestyle Canada participated in the COC NSO Sustainability Pilot Program, in which we partnered with Racing to Zero to develop a dedicated Environmental Sustainability Strategy, based on targets guided by a baseline of our annual emissions.
This strategy lays out a roadmap to climate action, including clear priorities, ambitious targets, and a call to innovate and collaborate. We believe that protecting the future of freestyle skiing means embedding sustainability into every facet of the organization, from daily operations to World Cups and national teams, ensuring this strategy remains a core part of operations, growth, and how freestyle skiing is represented as a sport.
