Travis Gerrits

One of the leaders of the “Eh Team”, aerialist Travis Gerrits first got a taste of the flips he would be doing later in his career when he was enrolled in gymnastics at the age of two.

By the age of six, Gerrits was taking skiing lessons and also transferring his gymnastics skills to the trampoline – competing at the national level. Gerrits started off in alpine racing, but his background in gymnastics naturally pushed him to try more and drove his instructors crazy.

To fulfill his appetite for skiing, his family would build him and his younger brother, Tyler, a ramp at home where they would learn their first backflips.  As a 10-year-old, Gerrits would compete in the under-16 category in a Big Air competition where he was spotted by Nicolas Fontaine and invited to train at the water ramp facility in Lake Placid where he fell in love with aerials.

By the time he was 14, Gerrits had already been named to the national team and was given the special honour of being a forerunner at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver. Gerrits made his Olympic debut in 2014 in Sochi and finished seventh overall.

Outside of freestyle skiing, Gerrits is a hardworking student currently completing courses with Stanford University. Gerrits also does a lot public speaking at schools and volunteers his time in the community.

When he’s not competing on the hills, Gerrits can be found golfing, fly-fishing, and hanging out with his three English bulldogs.
