There was no shortage of winter activities for Dara Howell to dive into as a young kid growing up in Huntsville, ON. By the time she was 18 months old, Dara had already taken up ski lessons.
As she grew up, Dara excelled in the Nancy Green alpine skiing program before finding her true passion in freestyle skiing.
Howell made an immediate impact on the slopestyle scene, competing in her first X Games Aspen at the age if 17 and finishing in sixth place. Just a few weeks later, she’d capture her first X Games medal, bronze, by placing third in Tignes.
That performance launched Howell’s career that has since included a silver medal at the 2013 FIS World Championships and three more X Games bronze medals.
Her biggest victory would come in 2014 when she wowed the crowd and the judges in Sochi, Russia, to become the first ever Olympic gold medallist during slopestyle’s Olympic debut.
Since then, Howell has been in high demand appearing in several publications, including Sportsnet Magazine’s Beauty of Sport issue. Howell has also launched “Dara’s Women Into Sports Fund”, a unique way to support sports and promote physical activity for girls in the Muskoka region.
