Celebrating Noah Bowman – A Freestyle Canada Legend

After 18 incredible years in the Freestyle Canada national team program, Noah Bowman has announced his retirement from the team. A true pioneer of halfpipe skiing, Noah has inspired teammates, competitors, and fans with his creativity, dedication, and unmistakable love for the halfpipe.

Over the course of his outstanding career, Noah collected 13 World Cup medals, captured a World Championship bronze in Deer Valley in 2019, and proudly represented Canada at three Olympic Winter Games—finishing 5th in Sochi 2014, 5th in PyeongChang 2018, and 4th in Beijing 2022. Yet Noah’s impact extends far beyond results. He has been a mentor, a leader, and a cornerstone of Canada’s halfpipe community.

Reflecting on his journey, Noah shared, “My approach to skiing was inspired by those who prioritized style & creativity and did things their own way. I adopted this mentality early on and quickly gained a sense of purpose in showing the value of making a statement through my skiing. I'm really happy to see how the sport has progressed, with so many athletes taking their own approach while pushing the sport to new heights. I feel the torch has been passed and I can comfortably enjoy the show from the sidelines moving forward. I'm not sad it's over, I'm thankful for the memories, friendships, and wealth of experience I carry forward. Thank you to Freestyle Canada, my family & friends, and sponsors who supported me in living my dream.”

High Performance Director Todd Allison shared a powerful reflection that speaks to Noah’s influence on the next generation. “I have always respected Noah’s skill, determination and performances, but I did not fully realize his impact on the next generation of skiers until I had a four-hour drive with Andrew Longino, a newer member of the Canadian Team. Andrew spoke about how deeply he was inspired by Noah. He had a cut-out of Noah in his house growing up and saw him as both a mentor and a source of motivation. That kind of influence says more about Noah’s career than any single result.”

World Cup Halfpipe Team Coach Trennon Paynter echoed the significance of Noah’s legacy, noting, “Noah’s retirement truly marks the end of an era, not only for Team Canada, but the sport as a whole. Few athletes have made such a mark on the style and culture of halfpipe skiing, and his legacy will absolutely live on as the sport moves forward.”

Fellow coach Marc McDonell added, “Noah’s kindness and unassuming nature, combined with a uniquely innovative and creative approach to the sport, have left an enduring influence on the entire freeskiing community. His retirement closes the chapter on a remarkable, truly one-of-a-kind career.”

As Noah moves on to his next chapter, the community he helped shape won’t be far behind. We are deeply grateful for his contributions, his leadership, and the legacy he leaves behind. Noah, your Freestyle Canada family will always be cheering for you—and we wish you all the best in whatever comes next.
