At just 22 years old, Édouard Therriault—known to most simply as EdJoy—is stepping away from World Cup competition in Slopestyle and Big Air to explore new creative paths in skiing.

Édouard burst onto the international scene after winning Junior World Championships in Slopestyle, then went on to compete in his first World Cup in Quebec City in 2019. During the height of the pandemic in 2021, he landed on the podium with a silver medal in Big Air at the World Championships in Aspen, a breakthrough moment that highlighted his unique style and technical ability. Over the course of his career, Ed collected two additional World Cup medals and established himself as one of Canada’s most imaginative and artistic freeskiers.

Known for his rail creativity and unmistakable grin, Ed brought joy to every training session and team camp. A true student of the sport, he approached skiing as an art form, always pushing to express himself in new ways. While he steps back from national team competition, Ed plans to stay active in the sport—focusing on filming, backcountry lines, and continuing to innovate in the rail scene. He also plans to return to university this fall.

Édouard shared deep gratitude for the guidance of his coaches and the support he received over the years from Sport Canada, Game Plan, and many others who helped him grow as both an athlete and a person.

From all of us at Freestyle Canada—merci, EdJoy. We look forward to seeing where your creativity takes you next and know you won’t be far.
